The Closing Ceremony Not Affected From the Rain |
The closing ceremony World Under 16 Chess Olympiad was going to held at the front garden of the Macit Özcan Sports Complex but it had to be reorganized in the residence due to a heavy rain. However, the warm atmosphere of the closing ceremony was not reduced with the participating of the protocol by Deputy Governor of Mersin Mr.Ahmet Büyükçelik, Deputy Mayor of Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Mr.Erol Ertan, Youth and Sports Director of Mersin Mr.Emrullah Taşkın, Honorary President of FIDE Mr.Florencio Campomanes and the President of the Turkish Chess Federation and the Vice-President of FIDE Mr.Ali Nihat Yazıcı participated to the closing cermeony together with the most of the Turkish Chess Federation board. Due to the heavy rain, the closing ceremony of the World Under 16 Chess Olmympiad had to be held indoor in the residence building of Macit Özcan Sports Complex.
The first protocol speech was made by the President of the Turkish Chess Federation and Vice-President of FIDE Mr.Ali Nihat Yazıcı who thanked the sponsor Metropolitan Municipality of Mersin and noticed that these organizations are the results of the intensive work of TCF and the enormous support of Mersin Mayor. After congratulating the prize-winner wished the participants return back home safely with warm feelings about Turkey and Mersin.
The second speech was delivered by the Honorary President of FIDE Mr.Florencio Campomannes. He stated India's success in both junior event, World Junior Championship and World Under-16 Olympiad. Considering that India's emergence as a chess power has a short history, no country in the world is hopeless, with the correct programming every country should become much stronger in chess according to Mr.Campomannes.
This rain shows us that even the God is with us in the closing ceremony of the World Under 16 Chess Olympiad. When everybody has to go inside because of the heavy rain. During this time I watched the lobby from far away and noticed that how correct FIDE's motto was, we are truly one great family!"
"I noticed that Turkey is now not only a power in organization but also they are producing some strong chess players. This is the result of the intensive programme of Turkish Chess Federation to youth chess. TCF organizes nice events with a professional and intensively working staff."
Deputy Mayor of Metropolitan Municipality of Erol Ertan made short speech, thanking FIDE and Turkish Chess Federation for giving an opportunity to Mersin to make a promotion with the help of chess which is very abundant in the city. He finished his speech with the hope that Mersin would host other international chess events in the future.
